Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

Revelation 17

Nephi saw much the same things that John saw.  The Lord told Nephi that the apostle John would write the things they both saw.  Thus Nephi wrote -

"...I, Nephi, am forbidden that I should write the remainder of the things which I saw and heard; wherefore the things which I have written sufficeth me; and I have written but a small part of the things which I saw..."  (Book of Mormon | 1 Nephi 14:28)

One thing he did write was -

"...Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore, whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth.
11 And it came to pass that I looked and beheld the whore of all the earth, and she sat upon many waters; and she had dominion over all the earth, among all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people."  (Book of Mormon | 1 Nephi 14:10 - 11)

John saw two symbolic woman.  One being the true Church or Church of the Lamb, and the other woman, a great conterfeit of Satan, the mother of abominations or whore of all the earth where John described -

"...I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH."  (New Testament | Revelation 17:3 - 5)

As John marveled at her supposed greatness, the angel asked -

"...Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is."  (New Testament | Revelation 17:7 - 8)

Obviously, Satan was relying on mutliple counterfeits as -

"...The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.."  (New Testament | Revelation 17:9)

Like Nephi saw, John also saw the great fall of the abominiable church and the whore of all the earth with all its wicked people who thought the woman was invincable, it will come that -

"...that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come."  (New Testament | Revelation 18:10)

"For in one hour so great riches is come to nought..." (New Testament | Revelation 18:17)

"...for in one hour is she made desolate."  (New Testament | Revelation 18:19)

With all this, I beleive I have a better understanding of Isaiah's prophecies concerning "waste places".

Revelation 14

In my reading this morning, as John records the events of angels and the great torment and destruction of the wicked, I couldn't I couldn't help but note "who are they" that are considered the righteous where -

"...These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb."  (New Testament | Revelation 14:4)

"...having his Father's name written in their foreheads."  (New Testament | Revelation 14:1)

...which suggests to me that their focus, desires, and actions are towards Him where  -

"...their mouth was found no guile..."  (New Testament | Revelation 14:5)

These -

"...are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."  (New Testament | Revelation 14:12)

I hope everyone noticed the two conditions, faith and keeping all His commandments for -

"...their works do follow them."  (New Testament | Revelation 14:13)

Those that teach otherwise are wrest the scriptures at their own risk.

Revelation 13

John also records that as -

"...I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority."  (New Testament | Revelation 13:1 - 2)

In my own opinion, I see this beast as the -

"...church which is most abominable above all other churches, which slayeth the saints of God, yea, and tortureth them and bindeth them down, and yoketh them with a yoke of iron, and bringeth them down into captivity.
6 And it came to pass that I beheld this great and abominable church; and I saw the devil that he was the founder of it.
7 And I also saw gold, and silver, and silks, and scarlets, and fine-twined linen, and all manner of precious clothing; and I saw many harlots.
8 And the angel spake unto me, saying: Behold the gold, and the silver, and the silks, and the scarlets, and the fine-twined linen, and the precious clothing, and the harlots, are the desires of this great and abominable church.
9 And also for the praise of the world do they destroy the saints of God, and bring them down into captivity."  (Book of Mormon | 1 Nephi 13:5 - 9)

I also note that this beast had seven heads suggesting to me multiple counterfeits that may lead the saints of God astray.  And even as the saints did war against this great wickedness -

"...I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast."  (New Testament | Revelation 13:3)

Which suggests to me the changing of attitudes toward fairness, political correctness, and anti-discrimination even contrary to the commandments of God for the world -

"...worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.
6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world."  (New Testament | Revelation 13:4 - 8)

Apparently, the beast will have great influence over the work except those whose names are written in the book of life of the Lamb.

Revelation 12

Again in great symbolism, John saw -

"...a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:
2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered."  (New Testament | Revelation 12:1 - 2)

"And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne."  (New Testament | Revelation 12:5)

We learn the interpretation of the womand and the man child as the Prophet Joseph Smith translated Satan -

"...prevailed not against Michael, neither the child, nor the woman, which was the church of God, who had been delivered of her pains, and brought forth the kingdom of our God and his Christ.  (JST: Revelation 12:7)

It becomes apparent that the woman is the Church, and the man child, the kingdom of God and his Christ.  Thus the kingdom of God on earth would rule with an iron rod or word of God (see Lehi's vision).  It is obvious that the woman (Church) would suffer much pain in bringing forth the kingdom of God or Zion.  But tThe day would come when members of this kingdom would be caught up to be with God.

John also learns of the Great Apostasy as -

"...the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days."  (New Testament | Revelation 12:6)

Joseph Smith translated days to years.  John learns of the Church especially in the latter days that -

"...when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
15 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ."  (New Testament | Revelation 12:13 - 17)

I see the flood of water as filthy water or temptations that will eventually be swallowed up as we enter into the millenium.

Revelation 11

One interesting prophecy received by John is concerning two prophets where the Lord -

"...will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed."  (New Testament | Revelation 11:3 - 5)

Apparently as olive trees (oil for preparation) and candlesticks (to bear light of Christ), they will be a great annoyance to Satan, his followers, and the wicked.  Joseph called these witnesses -

"...two prophets that are to be raised up to the Jewish nation in the last days, at the time of the restoration, and to prophesy to the Jews after they are gathered and have built the city of Jerusalem in the land of their fathers."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 77:15)

These prophets shall -

"...have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will."  (New Testament | Revelation 11:6)

Again, an annoyance to the world.

"And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves."  (New Testament | Revelation 11:7 - 9)

Obviously, the entire world will know of this event for -

"...they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth."  (New Testament | Revelation 11:10)

And then -

"...after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.
12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.
13 And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven."  (New Testament | Revelation 11:11 - 13)

It is apparent they man of the wicked will be slain and some of the more righteous will repent.

Revelation 9

As the fifth angel was given the key to the bottomless pit -

"...he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.
3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power."  (New Testament | Revelation 9:2 - 3)

As I read of the smoke that arose from the pit, I was reminded of Lehi's vision where as people were pressing forward on the narrow path that led to the Tree  -

"...there arose a mist of darkness; yea, even an exceedingly great mist of darkness, insomuch that they who had commenced in the path did lose their way, that they wandered off and were lost."  (Book of Mormon | 1 Nephi 8:23)

Nephi would later tell us that -

"...the mists of darkness are the temptations of the devil, which blindeth the eyes, and hardeneth the hearts of the children of men, and leadeth them away into broad roads, that they perish and are lost."  (Book of Mormon | 1 Nephi 12:17)

I believe the smoke seen by John and the mists of darkness seen by Lehi are one of the same things.

In my mind, locusts would suggest military actions for -

"...the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men.
8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.
9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.
10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months."  (New Testament | Revelation 9:7 - 10)

I also noted that after the sixth angel sounded, wicked warriors arose with -

"...the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.
18 By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.
19 For their power is in their mouth..."  (New Testament | Revelation 9:17 - 19)

Or in other words, smoke came from their mouths or the temptations of the devil came from their mouths.  I couldn't help but think of the media and celebrities.

Revelation 8

John saw that  -

"...when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour."  (New Testament | Revelation 8:1)

This must be important because again in modern day revelation we read that -

"...there shall be silence in heaven for the space of half an hour..."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 88:95)

I'm sure that many have speculated that "silence in heaven" would suggest no revelation.  But I had a different thought as I read these words.

It seems that silence at times is a representation of reverence, excitement, and great anticipation of what may happen.  We see this in many sporting events coming down to a penalty kick, foul shot, or field goal.  In many cases it represents us "holding our breaths".

There is no question that the opening of the seventh seal and the second coming of the Savior has been prophesied and talked much about during all the other seals or thousand years.  I'm sure all the children of God and all living things must have held their breaths with great excitement as the seventh seal was opened.

One last thought as John saw what appears to be such great destruction as four of the angels sounded their trumpets.  I believe much of these descriptions of events are more symbolic than literal...as well as chronological for as the third angel sounded -

"...there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter."  (New Testament | Revelation 8:10 - 11)

In my mind, that great star symbolically is Satan and his followers (one third of the host of heaven) which we know had fallen to the earth.  In my mind the Satan is called Wormwood and his followers, "waters of Wormwood".  There is no question because of his influence that many men have suffered a spiritual death from the waters of wormwood.

Revelation 7

At what appears the closing of the sixth seal, John sees -

"...four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.
2 And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea,
3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads."  (New Testament | Revelation 7:1 - 3)

In modern day, we learn of these -

"...four angels sent forth from God, to whom is given power over the four parts of the earth, to save life and to destroy; these are they who have the everlasting gospel to commit to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people; having power to shut up the heavens, to seal up unto life, or to cast down to the regions of darkness."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 77:8)

And -

"...that the angel ascending from the east is he to whom is given the seal of the living God over the twelve tribes of Israel; wherefore, he crieth unto the four angels having the everlasting gospel, saying: Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. And, if you will receive it, this is Elias which was to come to gather together the tribes of Israel and restore all things." (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 77:9)

First, winds have always been considered a living and destructive force in the scriptures.  Obviously, this was a period of great missionary work, where the gospel of Jesus Christ would  be preached througout the world.  We also learn that -

"...the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel."  (New Testament | Revelation 7:4)

And in addition to these -

"...a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands..."  (New Testament | Revelation 7:9)

Of all of these we learn -

"...These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.
16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.
17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes."  (New Testament | Revelation 7:14 - 17)

I want to note that it seems everyone will experience "great tribulation".  But if they overcome or "come out of" suggesting faith, repentance, ordinances, and covenants, what greater promises are there.

Revelation 6

We learn in modern revelation of the seven seals of the book seen by John, represent the -

"...earth during the seven thousand years of its continuance, or its temporal existence."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 77:6)

And -

"...the first seal contains the things of the first thousand years, and the second also of the second thousand years, and so on until the seventh."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 77:7)

And of each seal -

"...the Lamb opened..."  (New Testament | Revelation 6:1)

Which would suggest that the Savior, having made a covenant with the Father, was in charge of plan of salvation on this earth.

Over the years, many have speculated concerning the four horses and horsemen as with each seal being opened.  It appears to me that with each thousand years brings a general symbolic representation with each horse.  In my mind, each horsemen represents success or victory.  With the white horse, or first thousand years -

"...he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer."  (New Testament | Revelation 6:2)

In my mind, white represents righteousness and purity.  Thus generally speaking righteousness ultimately prevailed.  We see this in the life of Enoch.  With the red horse we witness that -

"...power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword."  (New Testament | Revelation 6:4)

Obviously during the second thousand years that there would be much war and bloodshed.  Red would then be symbolic of blood.  With the black horse, one would expect evil and wickedness.  John saw that -

"...he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine."  (New Testament | Revelation 6:5 - 6)

It is apparent that the pair of balances had a great deal in measuring limited food.  It must have been very prevalent during this period of many famines because of wickedness.  And of the pale horse -

"...his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth."  (New Testament | Revelation 6:8)

In my mind, the pale horse represents all loss of the Spirit, the Holy Ghost, and spirituality.  That during this period there now resides and accumulation of captive prisoners in the spirit world.

Revelation 5

As a door into heaven is opened, John witnesses one of the most grand events of our pre-mortal existence as he -

"...saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals."  (New Testament | Revelation 5:1)

The Prophet Joseph Smith answered of the book -

"We are to understand that it contains the revealed will, mysteries, and the works of God; the hidden things of his economy concerning this earth during the seven thousand years of its continuance, or its temporal existence."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 77:6)

And that -

"...the first seal contains the things of the first thousand years, and the second also of the second thousand years, and so on until the seventh."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 77:7)

Obviously, this book was the plan of salvation for all of The Father's children as well as the mission of the Savior for John saw that -

"...a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?
3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.
4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon."  (New Testament | Revelation 5:2 - 4)

What a touching experience for John.  The Father held in His hand a great plan of salvation for all His children, yet there appeared to be no one that was worthy (not even close) to open it, or in other words, make this plan possible.  And then one of the elders comforted John, saying -

"...Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof."  (New Testament | Revelation 5:5)

In other words, Jesus Christ was worthy (the only one worthy) to open and perform what was necessary to accomplish the Father's great plan of salvation.  And then seeing a vision within a vision, John saw that -

"...in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain..."  (New Testament | Revelation 5:6)

In this vision John saw and testified of that which was written in the book, that the Savior, the Lamb of God had been slain to atone for the sins and death of the world.  What a marvelous experience this must have been.  Seeing this also suggested that the Savior's atonement was already in force in our pre-mortal existence.   And then John saw that the Savior, the only one worthy to open the book -

"...came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne."  (New Testament | Revelation 5:7)

Being the right hand of Him on the throne would signify that the Savior then made a covenant with God to fulfill the atonement and priesthood leader that was necessary in the book.  Is there any wonder that -

"...the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?"  (Old Testament | Job 38:7)

John witnesses this as he saw and heard them sing  -

 "...a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing."  (New Testament | Revelation 5:9 - 12)

Thus the Savior was "slain to receive power" sufficient that by His grace, that we can become kings and priests (which suggests kingdoms). Thus just as the elders did, we must have -

"...fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever."  (New Testament | Revelation 5:14)

Revelation 4

As a door was opened for John to look into heaven, John records -

"And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne."  (New Testament | Revelation 4:2)

Obviously, as one reads this and the next chapter, the "One" who sat on the throne, was God, our Eternal Father in Heaven.  After making an attempt to describe the "One", he also saw -

"...round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold."  (New Testament | Revelation 4:4)

Joseph Smith correctly translated

"JST Rev. 4:4 And in the midst of the throne were four and twenty seats..."  (New Testament:Revelation 4:4)

It becomes clear that His throne extended much farther than we perceive a regular single person throne.  Being in the midst of throne wearing crowns of Gold, it is apparent that these elders had received their exaltation, were kings,  and were "joint-heirs" of with Christ.  The Prophet Joseph Smith answered -

"...We are to understand that these elders whom John saw, were elders who had been faithful in the work of the ministry and were dead; who belonged to the cseven churches, and were then in the paradise of God."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 77:5)

But even though they were joint-heirs, kings of kingdoms, it was very clear -

"The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created."  (New Testament | Revelation 4:10 - 11)

No matter what the reward to those exalted, He will forever be our Father and will preside over us.  We will worship Him forever.  John also saw -

"...and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.
7 And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.
8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come."  (New Testament | Revelation 4:6 - 8)

Of such, the Prophet also explained that -

"They are figurative expressions, used by the Revelator, John, in describing heaven, the paradise of God, the happiness of man, and of beasts, and of creeping things, and of the fowls of the air; that which is spiritual being in the likeness of that which is temporal; and that which is temporal in the likeness of that which is spiritual; the spirit of man in the likeness of his person, as also the spirit of the beast, and every other creature which God has created."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 77:2)

That -

"...They are limited to four individual beasts, which were shown to John, to represent the glory of the classes of beings in their destined order or sphere of creation, in the enjoyment of their eternal felicity."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 77:3)

And that -

"Their eyes are a representation of light and knowledge, that is, they are full of knowledge; and their wings are a representation of power, to move, to act, etc."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 77:4)

Revelation 3

As John was instructed to write the words of the angel, the angel declares to several of the stars or servants  -

"...he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end..."  (New Testament | Revelation 2:26)

Of those that overcome the world are given great promises of exaltation and becoming like God which are respented symbolically as -

"...will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God."  (New Testament | Revelation 2:7)

"...shall not be hurt of the second death."  New Testament | Revelation 2:11)

...or spiritual death.

"...will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it."  (New Testament | Revelation 2:17)

"...to him will I give power over the nations..."  (New Testament | Revelation 2:26)

...or eternal kingdoms.

"...the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life..."  (New Testament | Revelation 3:5)

"...will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name."  (New Testament | Revelation 3:12)

"...will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne."  (New Testament | Revelation 3:21)

Kind of sounds like -

"...all that my Father hath shall be given unto him."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 84:38)

Revelation 1

John writes that as a great vision was opened before him -

"...I saw seven golden candlesticks;
13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man..."  (New Testament | Revelation 1:12 - 13)

"And he had in his right hand seven stars..."  (New Testament | Revelation 1:16)

And as he was commanded to write the things he beheld, he was told -

"The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches."  (New Testament | Revelation 1:20)

In the Joseph Smith translation we learn that the angels were his servants or priesthood leaders where the footnote in the Bible states -

"JST Rev. 1:20 ... servants of the seven churches ..."  (New Testament:Revelation 1:20)

Obviously, the "churches" or wards or branches and the stars were either bishops or branch presidents.  In my mind, these seven churches were members of a stake.  Thus the Savior was in the midst of the stake.  More important was the stars were in His right hand suggesting to me His covenant hand being on the right side of the Savior.

I also note that in the instruction to these priesthood leaders with all their problems, they are instructed -

"He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches..." (New Testament | Revelation 2:11)

What great leadership counsel.
