Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

Galatians 5

 Paul states -

"For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."  (Galatians 5:14)

That law being the Law of God.

Galatians 4

In my mind, the words of Paul suggests that we have the potential to be like our Father in Heaven or in other words "Gods" where he wrote the Galatians -

"...God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ."  (Galatians 4:4–7)

Galations 3

 Paul explained -

"...if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise."  (Galatians 3:29)

Which suggests that if we are obedient and enter into and keep the law, ordinances, and covenants of the plan of salvation, we become Abraham's seed and entitled to all his blessings.  Which would be same for the lineage of Isaac, Jacob (Israel), and the tribes of Israel.  The promises of Abraham include:

1. Abraham’s posterity will be numerous, even innumerable (Doctrine and Covenants 132:30)

2. Abraham will be blessed to receive and live in a promised land (Abraham 2:6,19)

3. All the nations of the earth will be blessed through the seed of Abraham (Abraham 2:11)

4. Abraham’s seed would bear the ministry of the gospel and the priesthood to all nations, sharing the blessings of the gospel, which are the blessings of salvation, even of life eternal (Abraham 2:9-11)

5.Abraham received the priesthood (Doctrine and Covenants 84:14), and he was promised that his posterity would have the right to the Priesthood.

Galatians 1

 Paul testified -

"...I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.

12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ."  (Galatians 1:11–12)

This testimony confirms that what he taught, he received by revelation.

Alma 26

I just wanted to note some scriptures I read this morning in the Book Of Mormon.  As Ammon boasts of His God and the joy he is experiencing, he mentioned -

"Behold, how many thousands of our brethren has he loosed from the pains of hell; and they are brought to sing redeeming love, and this because of the power of his word which is in us, therefore have we not great reason to rejoice?"  (Alma 26:13)

I note "the power of his word".

"I do not boast in my own strength, nor in my own wisdom; but behold, my joy is full, yea, my heart is brim with joy, and I will rejoice in my God.
12 Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever."  (Alma 26:11–12)

"...what natural man is there that knoweth these things? I say unto you, there is none that knoweth these things, save it be the penitent.
22 Yea, he that repenteth and exerciseth faith, and bringeth forth good works, and prayeth continually without ceasing—unto such it is given to know the mysteries of God; yea, unto such it shall be given to reveal things which never have been revealed; yea, and it shall be given unto such to bring thousands of souls to repentance, even as it has been given unto us to bring these our brethren to repentance."  (Alma 26:21–22)

2 Corinthians 12

Without giving us any more information, Paul states -

"And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.

9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong."  (2 Corinthians 12:7–10)

I think most of us have a "thorn in the flesh" or weakness.  Paul reminds us, His grace is sufficient.

2 Corinthians 11

Paul warns us of those that will try to deceive saying -

"For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works."  (2 Corinthians 11:13–15)

It reminds me of the counsel -

"Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."  (Matthew 7:20)

2 Corinthians 8

As Paul addresses the need for donations to those living in poverty in Jerusalem, he wrote -

" I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love.

9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich."  (2 Corinthians 8:8–9)

"For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened:
14 But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:
15 As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack."  (2 Corinthians 8:13–15)

"But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully."  (2 Corinthians 9:6)

Sounds much like fast offerings of our day.

2 Corinthians 4

 Paul wrote -

"Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.

15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.

16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day."  (2 Corinthians 4:14–16)

The prophet has counseled us to repent daily.

2 Corithians 3

Comparing the law of Moses to the gospel of Jesus Christ and personal revelation, Paul teaches -

"Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

4 And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:

5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;

6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life."  (2 Corinthians 3:3–6)

I think this is the difference between the glory of the Celestial kingdom and other kingdoms.

2 Corinthians 2

Paul, being somewhat sorrowful for his strictness in writing a previous epistle, follows -

:...I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.

4 For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.

5 But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all."  (2 Corinthians 2:3–5)

The Lord and His leaders sometimes chastise us because He loves us.

2 Corinthians 1

 Paul wrote the Corinthians -

"...we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:

10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us..."  (2 Corinthians 1:9–10)

1 Corinthians 15

Speaking of the Resurrection, Paul taught -

"...and with what body do they come?

36 Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:

37 And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:

38 But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.

39 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.

40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.

42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption..."  (1 Corinthians 15:35–42)

Paul teaches that even though we are resurrected to never die (blood body versus a spiritual body), there will be differences.  Joseph Fielding Smith suggested that having the means for posterity will be one.
