Revelation 1
John writes that as a great vision was opened before him -
"...I saw seven golden candlesticks;
13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man..." (New Testament | Revelation 1:12 - 13)
"And he had in his right hand seven stars..." (New Testament | Revelation 1:16)
And as he was commanded to write the things he beheld, he was told -
"The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches." (New Testament | Revelation 1:20)
In the Joseph Smith translation we learn that the angels were his servants or priesthood leaders where the footnote in the Bible states -
"JST Rev. 1:20 ... servants of the seven churches ..." (New Testament:Revelation 1:20)
Obviously, the "churches" or wards or branches and the stars were either bishops or branch presidents. In my mind, these seven churches were members of a stake. Thus the Savior was in the midst of the stake. More important was the stars were in His right hand suggesting to me His covenant hand being on the right side of the Savior.
I also note that in the instruction to these priesthood leaders with all their problems, they are instructed -
"He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches..." (New Testament | Revelation 2:11)
What great leadership counsel.
