Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

1 Kings 11

Power always seems to corrupt even the best of men.  We see this with Saul, David, and Solomon for -

"...Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and went not fully after the Lord, as did David his father.
7 Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon.
8 And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods."  (1 Kings 11:6–8)

We read in modern day -

"We have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of almost all men, as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion."  (Doctrine and Covenants 121:39)

1 Samuel 24

When David had the opportunity to slay Saul in a cave, he said to his brethren -

"...The Lord forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord."  (1 Samuel 24:6)

Obviously, even though his personal life was in jeopardy, David still recognized the meaning of honoring the "Lord's anointed".

Of being "anointed", David J. Ridges wrote -

"Anointing is often used in the work of the Lord to prepare His people future blessings. Even as elders administer to the sick, consecrated oil is used to prepare the person for the blessings that may be pronounced a few moments later in the sealing of the anointing. In summary, anointing is often a preliminary ordinance to later blessings."  Ridges, David J.. The Old Testament Made Easier - Part 2 (Kindle Locations 8664-8667).

1 Samuel 15

Samuel asked Saul -

"...Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice..."  (1 Samuel 15:22)

Obviously, the Lord prefers obedience than using sacrifice to justify disobedience.

Ruth 4

I sense that the writer of "Ruth" had one main purpose in mind as he tells the faithful and romantic story of Ruth and that is -

"...Boaz begat Obed,
22 And Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David."  (Ruth 4:21–22)

Judges 4

The writer of Judges wrote -

"And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time."  (Judges 4:4)

These words remind the saints and women have a major role in leading and counseling.  Obviously, Deborah was righteous and had the gift of prophecy.
