Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

John11

After hearing the miracle of raising of Lazarus from the dead, as the Jewish leaders wondered if the Savior would again come to the Passover feast -

"Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.
48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation."  (New Testament | John 11:47 - 48)

My thoughts were this morning was sarcastic..."well we can't have that".  We can't follow the true Messiah and lose our place and control of this nation.  It is then that -

"...one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,
50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not."  (New Testament | John 11:49 - 50)

From a spiritual sense, those words ring true.  John then specifically records -

"...this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad."  (New Testament | John 11:51 - 52)

Obviously, these were wicked and selfish men, but John specifically noted that Caiaphas "spake he not of himself" also being the high priest that year or presided over the council.  It seem that because of his office, even though having unworthy or wicked intent, the Spirit may still utilize the person in that position to teach and prophesy.

I am aware of stake patriarchs that have fallen and some have wondered if there blessings are valid.  Based upon this, the answer would be that because of ones office or position, their blessing can still be from the Holy Ghost.
