D&C 102
As we ponder the Lord's way in conducting a disciplinary council, He instructs us -
"The accused, in all cases, has a right to one-half of the council, to prevent insult or injustice.
16 And the councilors appointed to speak before the council are to present the case, after the evidence is examined, in its true light before the council; and every man is to speak according to equity and justice." (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 102:15 - 16)
Obviously, this is not as is done on the courts of law of this world with prosecutors and defendors. The purpose and work of the entire body is to bring forth the matter "in its true light". Questions are asked for the single purpose and love on behalf of the eternal welfare of the so called "accused" or transgressor. Each individual is to speak with equity, whic suggests to me, with freedom from bias, prejudice, or favortism. Yet doing so with justice such that -
"...this ye shall do that God may be glorified—not because ye forgive not, having not compassion, but that ye may be justified in the eyes of the law, that ye may not offend him who is your lawgiver—
14 Verily I say, for this cause ye shall do these things." (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 64:13 - 14)
This is why in more modern day, this councils are considered councils of true love!.
