Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

Matthew 15

As the Savior talked with the Canaanitish woman, we learn a very interesting doctrine on the mission of the Savior. He said to her -

"...I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel." (New Testament | Matthew 15:24)

It is clear that the Savior had learned from His father and previous prophecies that His mortal ministry was to be that amongst the children of Israel. I am not a scriptorial or doctrinal expert, but even though it is apparent He loved all men, I would suspect that the covenants and promises made to the children of Israel was to that extent. That His ministry would be among them, and their responsibility to then be to take the gospel to the gentiles. We see this as the Savior told the children of Israel in the Americas -

"...other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice..." (Book of Mormon | 3 Nephi 15:17)

There may also be another thought as Jacob taught years before His ministry -

"...that Christ—for in the last night the angel spake unto me that this should be his name—should come among the Jews, among those who are the more wicked part of the world; and they shall crucify him—for thus it behooveth our God, and there is none other nation on earth that would crucify their God." (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 10:3)

Just a thought why He was sent only to the house of Israel.
