Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

D&C 62 - 64

To the saints in Zion, the Lord commanded -

"Wherefore, it is wisdom that the land should be purchased by the saints, and also every tract lying westward, even unto the line running directly between Jew and Gentile" (Doctrine and Covenants Section 57:4) and that "...the land of Zion shall not be obtained but by purchase or by blood, otherwise there is none inheritance for you"."

There was a right way to inherit the land and a wrong way -

"...if by purchase, behold you are blessed;.. And if by blood, as you are forbidden to shed blood, lo, your enemies are upon you, and ye shall be scourged from city to city, and from synagogue to synagogue, and but few shall stand to receive an inheritance.(Doctrine and Covenants Section 63:29 - 31)

For "let no man break the laws of the land, for he that keepeth the laws of God hath no need to break the laws of the land." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 58:21)

And the saints were counseled to purchase with the land with money as they were able -

Behold, it is said in my laws, or forbidden, to get in debt to thine enemies;
(Doctrine and Covenants Section 64:27)

...it is not said at any time that the Lord should not take when he please, and pay as seemeth him good. (Doctrine and Covenants Section 64:28)

There is no question that if the Lord wanted property, he could take property but in great wisdom he teaches his leaders - stay out debt, purchase as you are able, and do so in accordance with the laws of the land.

And in this -

"...be not weary in well–doing, for ye are laying the foundation of a great work. And out of small things proceedeth that which is great.
34 Behold, the Lord requireth the heart and a willing mind; and the willing and obedient shall eat the good of the land of Zion in these last days" (Doctrine and Covenants Section 64:33 - 34)
