Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

D&C 48 - 49

The Lord said, "...I will go before you and be your rearward; and I will be in your midst..."
(Doctrine and Covenants Section 49:27) and "...ask and ye shall receive; knock and it shall be opened unto you." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 49:26)

As a person reads the scriptures such as these, a person may have the inclindation that the Lord will just take care of everything for the saints. But as you further read and ponder it becomes apparent that the Lord still requires work and great faith. As the saints begin to gather in Ohio, the Lord says -

"IT is necessary that ye should remain for the present time in your places of abode, as it shall be suitable to your circumstances.
2 And inasmuch as ye have lands, ye shall impart to the eastern brethren;
3 And inasmuch as ye have not lands, let them buy for the present time in those regions round about, as seemeth them good, for it must needs be necessary that they have places to live for the present time.
(Doctrine and Covenants Section 48:1 - 3)

The Lord could have easily stretched forth his hand and provided as much land the new converts needed. But instead, placing the burden on the saint, that they were still obligated to buy lands where ever they could. And even as "...needs be necessary that ye save all the money that ye can..." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 48:4)

And another thought - that are many good people of the earth that are willing to do good, to serve others, and live the Saviors teaching, but only when it is convenient or when it works for them. For "..they desire to know the truth in part, but not all..." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 49:2)

I believe the Gospel of Christ is much more. It is the Gospel of inconvenience, sacrifice, consecration, and obedience to the will of God.
