Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

Isaiah 27

As Isaiah explains how Israel will be gathered and purged in the last days, he makes an interesting statement concerning those that have no desire to learn the plan of salvation and will not repent saying of them -

"...for it is a people of no understanding..."  (Old Testament | Isaiah 27:11)

Those particular words seem to touch me this morning.  It seems that knowledge or mysteries of God and understanding are key to becoming one of the righteous.  Jacob taught -

"Behold, my brethren, he that prophesieth, let him prophesy to the understanding of men; for the Spirit speaketh the truth and lieth not. Wherefore, it speaketh of things as they really are, and of things as they really will be; wherefore, these things are manifested unto us plainly, for the salvation of our souls..."  (Book of Mormon | Jacob 4:13)

President Boyd K. Packer taught -

"True doctrine, understood, changes attitudes and behavior. The study of the doctrines of the gospel will improve behavior quicker than a study of behavior will improve behavior. Preoccupation with unworthy behavior can lead to unworthy behavior. That is why we stress so forcefully the study of the doctrines of the gospel."  (Boyd K. Packer, LDS General Conference, October 1986; Ensign, November 1986)

True doctrine understood where men come to an understanding is key to righteousness.  The Prophet Joseph Smith taught -

"It is impossible for a man to be saved in ignorance."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 131:6)

Being saved then is conditional upon understanding.
