2 Nephi 10 - 19

Jacob makes a very strong statment that -

it must needs be expedient that Christ...should come among the Jews, among those who are the more wicked part of the world; and they shall crucify him—for thus it behooveth our God, and there is none other nation on earth that would crucify their God." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 10:3)

Jacob explains that -

"...should the mighty miracles be wrought among other nations they would repent, and know that he be their God." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 10:4)

And what would bring about such a wicked state that they would be willing to crucify their God?

"...because of priestcrafts and iniquities, they at Jerusalem will stiffen their necks against him, that he be crucified." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 10:5)

Nephi talks of priestcrafts with the definition that -

"...priestcrafts are that men preach and set themselves up for a light unto the world, that they may get gain and praise of the world; but they seek not the welfare of Zion." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 26:29)

For to be popular and for gain they -

"...call evil good, and good evil, that put darkness for light, and light for darkness, that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 15:20)

That they may look -

"...wise in their own eyes and prudent in their own sight!"(Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 15:21)

Knowing where this leads to, the Lord specifically -

"...commandeth that there shall be no priestcrafts; for,...Behold, the Lord hath forbidden this thing..." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 26:29 - 30)

Instead

"...the Lord God hath given a commandment that all men should have charity, which charity is love. And except they should have charity they were nothing. Wherefore, if they should have charity they would not suffer the laborer in Zion to perish.31 But the laborer in Zion shall labor for Zion..." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 26:30 - 31)

With this warning -

"...for if they labor for money they shall perish." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 26:31)

I close with the admonition of Isaiah and a warning to those the exercise priestcrafts -

"Sanctify the Lord of Hosts himself, and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.14 And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling, and for a rock of offense to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.15 And many among them shall stumble and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken."(Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 18:13 - 15)
