Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

2 Nephi 9

Jacob teaches that the Savior -

"...cometh into the world that he may save all men if they will hearken unto his voice; for behold, he suffereth the pains of all men, yea, the pains of every living creature, both men, women, and children, who belong to the family of Adam." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 9:21)

The condition being "if they will hearken not his voice". Brigham Young said the same thing -

“He has paid the full debt, whether you receive the gift or not.”
Brigham Young, Discourses of Brigham Young, selected and arranged by John A. Widtsoe [Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Co., 1954], 156.)

But he also -

"...suffereth this that the resurrection might pass upon all men, that all might stand before him at the great and judgment day." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 9:22)

But even though all will be resurrected -

"...he commandeth all men that they must repent, and be baptized in his name, having perfect faith in the Holy One of Israel, or they cannot be saved in the kingdom of God.
24 And if they will not repent and believe in his name, and be baptized in his name, and endure to the end, they must be damned; for the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, has spoken it." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 9:23 - 24)

Resurrection alone then is not being "saved in the kingdom of God". For all will come forth, they that hearken to his voice and -

"...have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation." (New Testament John 5:29)

"O that cunning plan of the evil one! O the vainness, and the frailties, and the foolishness of men! When they are learned they think they are wise, and they hearken not unto the counsel of God, for they set it aside, supposing they know of themselves, wherefore, their wisdom is foolishness and it profiteth them not. And they shall perish.
29 But to be learned is good if they hearken unto the counsels of God." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 9:28 - 29)

Jacob warns the foolish that think they are wise -

"...wo unto the rich, who are rich as to the things of the world. For because they are rich they despise the poor, and they persecute the meek, and their hearts are upon their treasures; wherefore, their treasure is their god. And behold, their treasure shall perish with them also." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 9:30)

"...wo unto the deaf that will not hear;...the blind that will not see; for they shall perish also." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 9:31 - 32)

"Wo unto the uncircumcised of heart, for a knowledge of their iniquities shall smite them at the last day.
34 Wo unto the liar, for he shall be thrust down to hell.
35 Wo unto the murderer who deliberately killeth, for he shall die.
36 Wo unto them who commit whoredoms, for they shall be thrust down to hell.
37 Yea, wo unto those that worship idols, for the devil of all devils delighteth in them." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 9:33 - 37)

"...in fine, wo unto all those who die in their sins; for they shall return to God, and behold his face, and remain in their sins." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 9:38)

To the wise and prudent -

"...Remember, to be carnally–minded is death, and to be spiritually–minded is life eternal." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 9:39)
