Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

2 Nephi 15

Even thought Isaiah may be speaking to the people of his day, I think his words have just as much application in our day as he writes -

"Wo unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink, that continue until night, and wine inflame them!
12 And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine are in their feasts; but they regard not the work of the Lord, neither consider the operation of his hands." (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 15:11 - 12)

I note that "the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine are in their feasts" were and integral part of their religious practices is their day just as sacramental services and other modern day laws and commandments are practices of our day and yet there are many that may go through the motions but are not faithful in keeping the Lord's commandments. In other words, there has been not conversion or change of heart -

"Therefore, my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge; and their honorable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.
14 Therefore, hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure; and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it." (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 15:13 - 14)

I believe that because there little or no knowledge of the truth of the plan of salvation and covenants many are "dried up with thirst".

Because of little or no knowledge, and the pride of man, they -

"...draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope..." (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 15:18)

They even declare -

"Let him make speed, hasten his work, that we may see it; and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it." (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 15:19)

For how can we even believe unless it is visibly apparent. The Lord warns, which is so apparent in our day -

"Wo unto them that call evil good, and good evil, that put darkness for light, and light for darkness, that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
21 Wo unto the wise in their own eyes and prudent in their own sight!
22 Wo unto the mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink;
23 Who justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!" (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 15:20 - 23)

This is the condition of our day. I am so thankful that truth and knowledge has been restored today.
