D&C 131

The Prophet Joseph Smith wrote -

"It is impossible for a man to be saved in ignorance." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 131:6)

Or with no knowledge or intelligence. The Lord taught -

"The glory of God is intelligence, or, in other words, light and truth." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 93:36)

One cannot be saved with out light, guidance, and the truth where truth -

"...truth is knowledge of things as they are, and as they were, and as they are to come..." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 93:24)

Or in other words knowledge and understanding of the plan of happiness or salvation for -

"Light and truth forsake that evil one." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 93:37)

It is light and truth that gives us knowledge to choose God over the things of the world. The Prophet Joseph Smith taught -

"A man is saved no faster than he gets knowledge, for if he does not get knowledge, he will be brought into captivity by some evil power in the other world, as evil spirits will have more knowledge, and consequently more power than many men who are on the earth. Hence it needs revelation to assist us, and give us knowledge of the things of God." (History of the Church, 4:588.)
