Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

D&C 129

As we ponder the instructions of the Prophet Joseph Smith on the grand keys on mans ability to distinguish angels and spirits, we also learn an interesting thing about the nature of spirits only and those spirits with bodies of flesh and bones. When a -

"...spirit of a just man made perfect he will come in his glory; for that is the only way he can appear—" (Doctrine and Covenants Section 129:6)

Maybe that is why God is referred to as the -

"...Father of lights." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 67:9)

It seems apparent that glory or light of a spirit cannot be controlled where one that has a body of flesh and bones can be controlled. This makes some sense as we learn that even evil, deceptive spirits will try to appear with any light they possess, or -

"...the devil as an angel of light..." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 129:8)

Satans full plan is to lie and deceive man. And he may strive to do so with any counterfeiting power he may possess.

In recorded times past, when an angel has appeared not necessarily in glory, the angel must have had body. In Old Testament times, these angels would not be resurrected but translated earthly beings. When record records angels in great glory, this may represent disembodied spirits coming in all their glory.
