Mosiah 23

I don't believe that every major difficulty in our lives is God caused.  Most difficulties and trials I believe are God allowed due to the natural nature of this world.  But Mormon taught -

"Nevertheless the Lord seeth fit to chasten his people; yea, he trieth their patience and their faith.
22 Nevertheless—whosoever putteth his trust in him the same shall be lifted up at the last day.  Yea, and thus it was with this people."  (Book of Mormon | Mosiah 23:21 - 22)

Much like a truly loving and wise parent, giving everything to our children as they request would be foolish.  In some cases, wise parents put their children in challenging situations, because they love them.  In doing so, they prove their children and their children prove themselves.

Thus is God's great and infinite wisdom, it becomes clear, because He loves, He "trieth our patience and our faith".
