Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

Hebrews 1

As Paul writes directly to the Jews, he provides some great truths that I feel many do not understand.  The first being that God -

"Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds..."  (New Testament | Hebrews 1:2)

Christ is then a heir of all the Father has.  Christ also was the creator, thus He is Jehovah of the Old Testament.

Also -

"Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high..."  (New Testament | Hebrews 1:3)

It becomes apparent that the right hand then would be the fulfilling of all covenants.  Thus the right hand is the covenant hand.  We see this as the Savior taught -

"...he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left."  (New Testament | Matthew 25:32 - 33)

Thus those that keep their covenants will be on the right hand of God for -

"...he took on him the seed of Abraham.  (New Testament | Hebrews 2:16)

Or in other words, those that have faithfully kept the covenant of Abraham.  By keeping our covenants and satisfying the "doctrine of Christ", the promise is to them that the Savior -

"...crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:
8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet..."  (New Testament | Hebrews 2:7 - 8)

Which is the same promise of the Father to the Son.  Thus we are joint heirs with Christ.

Finally, speaking of the atonement of Jesus Christ -

"For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted."  (New Testament | Hebrews 2:18)

Much like the teachings of Alma of the Savior that  -

"...he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.
12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities."  (Book of Mormon | Alma 7:11 - 12)
