Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

D&C 130

The Lord revealed -

"Whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection.
19 And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this life through his diligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the advantage in the world to come."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 130:18 - 19)

And also -

"It is impossible for a man to be saved in ignorance."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 131:6)

This type of knowledge would not be the knowledge of the world but the knowledge that God or in other words,  the knowledge of the eternal plan of salvation and eternity which only comes by revelation and the priesthood for the priesthood -

"...holdeth the key of the mysteries of the kingdom, even the key of the knowledge of God."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 84:19)

And it is -

"...in the ordinances thereof, the power of godliness is manifest."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 84:20)

Thus, godliness, or in other words, righteousness and holiness, which are attributes of God brings power which is a result of godlike knowledge and intelligence.  For  -

"The glory of God is intelligence, or, in other words, light and truth.
37  Light and truth forsake that evil one."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 93:36 - 37)

The Prophet Joseph Smith preached concerning -

"...2nd Peter, 1st chapter and showed that knowledge is power; and the man who has the most knowledge has the greatest power. “Salvation means a man's being placed beyond the power of all his enemies.  (History of the Church, Vol. 5, page 392).

We can only be saved to the extent that we acquire knowledge even the knowledge of God which leads to the love of God.  This process becomes apparent as Peter taught by -

"...giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity."  (New Testament | 2 Peter 1:5 - 7)
