Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

D&C 19

Of this revelation, we read in the introduction -

"...In his history the Prophet introduced it as "a commandment of God and not of man, to Martin Harris, given by him who is Eternal."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 19:Heading)

Even though this revelation was given to Martin Harris, it is apparent that it applies to all as the Lord reveals -

"...surely every man must repent or suffer..."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 19:4)

After teaching what  "suffer" means, the Lord again gives His commandments saying -

"...I command you again to repent, lest I humble you with my almighty power; and that you confess your sins, lest you suffer these punishments..."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 19:20)

His commandments continue -

"...I command you that you preach naught but repentance..."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 19:21)

"And thou shalt declare glad tidings, yea, publish it upon the mountains, and upon every high place, and among every people that thou shalt be permitted to see.
30 And thou shalt do it with all humility, trusting in me, reviling not against revilers.
31 And of tenets thou shalt not talk, but thou shalt declare repentance and faith on the Savior, and remission of sins by baptism, and by fire, yea, even the Holy Ghost.  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 19:29 - 31)

"I command thee that thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife; nor seek thy neighbor's life.
26 And again, I command thee that thou shalt not covet thine own property..."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 19:25 - 26)

"...I command thee that thou shalt pray vocally as well as in thy heart; yea, before the world as well as in secret, in public as well as in private."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 19:28)

"Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 19:23)

And in conclusion  -

"...Behold, this is a great and the last commandment which I shall give unto you concerning this matter; for this shall suffice for thy daily walk, even unto the end of thy life."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 19:32)

Just as these commandments applied to Martin Harris, they certainly apply to us.
