Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

Alma 63

As we come to the conclusion of the book of Alma, we learn that Helaman passes away, and also Moroni. We learn that there is a great migration northward by land and by sea. We learn that Corianton heads north to assist with provisions and Shiblon takes responsibility for the records. Shiblen must have become quite ill in that he conferred the records to Helaman's son, Helaman. While Helaman, the son of Helaman, begins to possess the records we learn something interesting in that -

"...all those engravings which were in the possession of Helaman were written and sent forth among the children of men throughout all the land, save it were those parts which had been commanded by Alma should not go forth." (Book of Mormon | Alma 63:12)

This must have been no small work to have all the engravings "written" or in my mind, copied to paper or parchment. It seems that many copies were distributed throughout the land, much like we read the sons of Mosiah and many others had written copies. Then as now, we need to the written word for just as the sons of Mosiah -

"...they had waxed strong in the knowledge of the truth; for they were men of a sound understanding and they had searched the scriptures diligently, that they might know the word of God.
3 But this is not all; they had given themselves to much prayer, and fasting; therefore they had the spirit of prophecy, and the spirit of revelation, and when they taught, they taught with power and authority of God." (Book of Mormon | Alma 17:2 - 3)

True knowledge is power.
