Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

D&C 13

As John the Baptist restored the keys of the Aaronic priesthood, he -

"...explained that he was acting under the direction of Peter, James, and John, the ancient apostles, who held the keys of the higher priesthood, which was called the Priesthood of Melchizedek." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 13:Heading)

Joseph Smith recorded -

"The messenger who visited us on this occasion, and conferred this Priesthood upon us, said that his name was John, the same that is called John the Baptist in the New Testament [ Lk. 3:1-17; 7:24-35], and that he acted under the direction of Peter, James and John, who held the keys of the Priesthood of Melchizedek, which Priesthood he said would in due time be conferred on us, and that I should be called the first Elder of the Church and he (Oliver Cowdery) the second. It was on the 15th day of May, 1829, that we were ordained under the hand of this messenger and baptized.

Immediately on our coming up out of the water after we had been baptized we experienced great and glorious blessings from our Heavenly Father. No sooner had I baptized Oliver Cowdery, than the Holy Ghost fell upon us and he stood up and prophesied concerning the rise of this Church, and many other things connected with the Church, and this generation of the children of men. We were filled with the Holy Ghost, and rejoiced in the God of our salvation." (Joseph Smith, HC 1:32-33.)

In ward units, the bishopric -

:The bishopric is the presidency of this priesthood, and holds the keys or authority of the same." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 107:15)

In stake units, the stake presidency holds the keys of the Melchizedek priesthood within the stake. The words of John the Baptist that he acted under the direction of Peter, James, and John (Presidency of Melchizedek priesthood) is significant. The presidency of the Melchizedek priesthood presides over the presidency of the Aaronic priesthood and they act under their direction.

Just another matter of thought. Would there be anyway that a young Joseph Smith would somehow contemplate these simple words had it all been a fabricated story as some my presume.
