Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

3 Nephi 20 - 22

The story is told of an elderly couple who had passed on. The couple had been very active in the Church during their mortal lives, serving diligently in many callings and doing whatever they were asked to. But as they entered their retirement years, they excused themselves from Church callings and missionary service with the reasoning they had already served in these positions and they felt it was now their time to kick back and enjoy their retirement years relaxing and enjoying warmer weather.

Upon passing on they were welcomed into heaven and were taken by an angel to their mansion in heaven. As they arrived, they were overwhelmed with the magnificent size and beauty of the mansion the angel said was there. They rushed in to see if the interior finishes and furnishes were as exquisite as the exterior. But to there surprise, there were no finishes or furnishings. Just exposed wall studs and trusses, mechanical ductwork and electrical conduits with no drywall, paint or floor coverings. They turned back to the angel wondering what was going on. The Angel, pausing for a second, answered, "Oh yeah! I remember now - when you stopped working so did we!"

The Savior said -

"And if thou art faithful unto the end thou shalt have a crown of immortality, and eternal life in the mansions which I have prepared in the house of my Father." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 81:6)

This story came to mind as the Savior taught the words of Isaiah -

"...For in that day, for my sake shall the Father work a work, which shall be a great and a marvelous work among them..." (Book of Mormon 3 Nephi 21:9)

"...then shall the work of the Father commence at that day, even when this gospel shall be preached among the remnant of this people...[and]among all nations in preparing the way whereby his people may be gathered home to the land of their inheritance.
29 And they shall go out from all nations; and they shall not go out in haste, nor go by flight, for I will go before them, saith the Father, and I will be their rearward." (Book of Mormon 3 Nephi 21:26 - 29)

And as his people assist in this great and marvelous work -

"...I will lay thy stones with fair colors, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.
12 And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones."

With this great promise -

"...all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.
14 In righteousness shalt thou be established; thou shalt be far from oppression for thou shalt not fear, and from terror for it shall not come near thee." (Book of Mormon 3 Nephi 22:13 - 14)
