Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

2 Nephi 16 - 21

Much of the writings and prophecies of Isaiah in these chapters continue with the same themes of that of the wicked and their fate, prophecies of Christ and his mercies, and the deliverance of the righteous.

In association with the wicked -

"...they shall say unto you: Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep and mutter..."

Isaiah asks -

"...—should not a people seek unto their God for the living to hear from the dead?
20 To the law and to the testimony; and if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
21 And they shall pass through it hardly bestead and hungry; and it shall come to pass that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.
22 And they shall look unto the earth and behold trouble, and darkness, dimness of anguish, and shall be driven to darkness." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 18:19 - 22)

He again asks?

"...And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?
4 Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain..." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 20:3 - 4)

And five times, Isaiah tells the wicked -

"...For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still."

And because of that he prophecies of the Savior -

"...Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and shall bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
15 Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil and to choose the good..."
(Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 17:14 - 15)

"For the Lord spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people...; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.
13 Sanctify the Lord of Hosts himself, and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.
14 And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling, and for a rock of offense to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 18:11 - 14)

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called, Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of government and peace there is no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth, even forever. " (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 19:6 - 7)

"And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;
3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord; and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears.
4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
5 And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 21:2 - 5)

'The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
3 Thou hast multiplied the nation, and increased the joy—they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
4 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor." (Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 19:2 - 4)

"..Lo, this has touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged."
(Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 16:7)
