Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

D&C 76

Many individual sainst seemed to be overwhelmed and thus discouraged as they perceive what it takes to obtain Eternal Life.  I don't necessarily want to over simplify, but this should not be the case.  In fact the Lord makes it clear what the gospel is and the conditions of receiving His greatest gift.  First, -

"..this is the gospel, the glad tidings, which the voice out of the heavens bore record unto us—
41 That he came into the world, even Jesus, to be crucified for the world, and to bear the sins of the world, and to sanctify the world, and to cleanse it from all unrighteousness..."  Doctrine and Covenants | Section 76:40 - 41)

"...and this is the testimony of the gospel of Christ concerning them who shall come forth in the resurrection of the just—"  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 76:50)

Or in other words, the conditions to receive the blessings of exaltation -

(1) "They are they who received the testimony of Jesus..."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 76:51)
(2) "...and believed on his name..."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 76:51)
(3) "...and were baptized after the manner of his burial, being buried in the water in his name, and this according to the commandment which he has given—"  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 76:51)
(4) "That by keeping the commandments they might be washed and cleansed from all their sins..."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 76:52)
(5) "...and receive the Holy Spirit by the laying on of the hands of him who is ordained and sealed unto this power..."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 76:52)

...which suggests to me by one not only holding sufficient priesthood authority but being authorized (sealed) by those with priesthood keys.  And -

(6) "...who overcome by faith..."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 76:53)
(7) "...and are sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise, which the Father sheds forth upon all those who are just and true."  (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 76:53)

That is it.  Something we can all satisfy as we receive the ordinances of the gospel and continually strive to repent and keep His commandments.
