Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

Alma 35

Isn't it interesting that apostates that reject the truth, can't leave it alone for -

:...after the more popular part of the Zoramites had consulted together concerning the words which had been preached unto them, they were angry because of the word, for it did destroy their craft..." (Book of Mormon | Alma 35:3)

That craft is defined by Nephi as priestcraft -

"...for, behold, priestcrafts are that men preach and set themselves up for a light unto the world, that they may get gain and praise of the world; but they seek not the welfare of Zion." (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 26:29)

We see this among the "popular" Zoramites or those they were receiving "gain" that -

"...they sent and gathered together throughout all the land all the people, and consulted with them concerning the words which had been spoken.
5 Now their rulers and their priests and their teachers did not let the people know concerning their desires; therefore they found out privily the minds of all the people.
6 And it came to pass that after they had found out the minds of all the people, those who were in favor of the words which had been spoken by Alma and his brethren were cast out of the land..." (Book of Mormon | Alma 35:4 - 6)

Again, it is interesting that after doing so, they couldn't deal with the fact the righteous saints in Jershon would take them in and support so they demanded that -

"...they [those of Jershon] should cast out of their land all those who came over from them into their land." (Book of Mormon | Alma 35:8)

The good people of Jershon did not fear them and would not do so. So the wicked leaders of Zoramites -

"...did stir up the Zoramites to anger against the people of Ammon, and they began to mix with the Lamanites and to stir them up also to anger against them.
11 And thus the Zoramites and the Lamanites began to make preparations for war against the people of Ammon, and also against the Nephites." (Book of Mormon | Alma 35:10 - 11)

It seems those that had once accepted the truth and then apostatized for wickedness purposes, can never leave it alone.
