The Lord said in preface to His modern day revelations -

"...I the Lord, knowing the calamity which should come upon the inhabitants of the earth, called upon my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., and spake unto him from heaven, and gave him commandments..." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 1:17)

These commandments were given with love to prepare, protect, and save the inhabitants of the earth from these calamities if they would just hearken and obey. Had this revelation been given today, the Lord would have said -

"...I the Lord, knowing the calamity which should come upon the inhabitants of the earth, called upon my servant Thomas S. Monson, and spake unto him from heaven, and gave him commandments..."

And of these commandments spoken from heaven, the Lord -

"...gave commandments to others, that they should proclaim these things unto the world..." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 1:18)

Again for the benefit of the inhabitants of the earth if they will but hearken and obey. This weekend, these commandments will again be proclaimed to the saints and unto the world. The question will always be, will we hearken and obey?
