D&C 133

In the latter days, even though the same gospel has been preached in all generations, the Lord commands -

"...prepare ye, prepare ye, O my people; sanctify yourselves..." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 133:4)

Suggesting that Babylon is the lifestyle of the wicked, He says -

"Go ye out from among the nations, even from Babylon, from the midst of wickedness, which is spiritual Babylon." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 133:14)

And then He commands -

"Go ye out from Babylon. Be ye clean that bear the vessels of the Lord." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 133:5)

And then the Lord provides this instruction and great warning -

"But verily, thus saith the Lord, let not your flight be in haste, but let all things be prepared before you; and he that goeth, let him not look back lest sudden destruction shall come upon him." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 133:15)

What a great warning this is. There are so many that receive a witness of the Holy Ghost that move forward but yet still desire many of the temptations of spiritual Babylon. The Lord warns that those that do this may fall to destruction. We see this as Lot's -

"...wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt." (Old Testament Genesis 19:26)

The promise is given -

"...unto him that repenteth and sanctifieth himself before the Lord shall be given eternal life." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 133:62)
