Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

4 Nephi

As I read 4th Nephi this morning, a thought crossed by mind. There are many members that believe that the Lamanites are direct descendents of Laman and Lemuel, the sons of Lehi. First we know that the blood was mixed at times as through many generations, there were many Nephite dissenters that went to live with the Lamanites. But after the Savior's appearance in the new world we read that -

"There were no robbers, nor murderers, neither were there Lamanites, nor any manner of -ites; but they were in one, the children of Christ, and heirs to the kingdom of God." (Book of Mormon 4 Nephi 1:17)

They all became the people of Nephi and -

"...it came to pass that the people of Nephi did wax strong, and did multiply exceedingly fast, and became an exceedingly fair and delightsome people." (Book of Mormon 4 Nephi 1:10)

and -

"...there was no contention in the land, because of the love of God which did dwell in the hearts of the people.
16 And there were no envyings, nor strifes, nor tumults, nor whoredoms, nor lyings, nor murders, nor any manner of lasciviousness; and surely there could not be a happier people among all the people who had been created by the hand of God." (Book of Mormon 4 Nephi 1:15 - 16)

And it was during the next 200 years that -

"...they were married, and given in marriage, and were blessed according to the multitude of the promises which the Lord had made unto them." (Book of Mormon 4 Nephi 1:11)

I'm sure by this time, it would be very difficult to have any pure direct descendents of Laman and Lemuel. Eventually there -

"...were a small part of the people who had revolted from the church and taken upon them the name of Lamanites; therefore there began to be Lamanites again in the land." (Book of Mormon 4 Nephi 1:20)

Nothing in scripture suggests that these individuals were even descendents of Lamanites. All they did was revolt from the Church and began to call themselves Lamanites. In short, it is very unlikely that any of those that remained after the great civil ward anywhere close to direct descendents of Laman and Lemuel.
