Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

Roman 10 - 14

Paul writes to the saints in Rome -

"...The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (New Testament Romans 10:8 - 9)

Many seem to place their entire religious belief on this simple verse with little regard for all the other teachings of Paul, the Savior, and all His holy prophets. But even then, I too agree with the truthfulness of these verses as Paul talks of two requirements - 1) confess with thy mouth that Jesus is the Christ, and 2) believe in thine heart. What does in mean to have faith or "believe in thine heart". The "heart" is the purest demonstration of a persons most inward and sincere desires. These desires are then manifested in what we do. Paul continues to explain -

"For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (New Testament Romans 10:10)

What is righteousness but living pure lives in obedience to his commandments. In other words, according to the will of God. Believeth unto righteousness suggest faith or belief strong enough for a person to repent and experience as King Benjamin said -

"...has wrought a mighty change in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually." (Book of Mormon Mosiah 5:2)

which blessed the people of Alma where a -

"...mighty change was also wrought in their hearts, and they humbled themselves and put their trust in the true and living God. And behold, they were faithful until the end; therefore they were saved." (Book of Mormon Alma 5:13)

Paul understood this for he explained some of the requirements to "believe in thine heart" -

"LET every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God." (New Testament Romans 13:1)

And as we follow the counsel of His annointed priesthood leaders, we will strive to -

"Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof." (New Testament Romans 13:8 - 14)

"For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost." (New Testament Romans 14:17)
