Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

Moses 8, Abraham 1

As Abraham chose to follow the Lord and keep his commandments, great blessings must have been followed, for he states -

"...finding there was greater happiness and peace and rest for me..." (Pearl of Great Price Abraham 1:2)

Abraham must of understood that greater happiness, peace, and rest would only come with increased service to his family and others for he follows -

"...I sought for the blessings of the fathers, and the right whereunto I should be ordained to administer the same..." (Pearl of Great Price Abraham 1:2)

And he knew the only way to do that is by receiving divine authorization, rights, knowledge, and power -

"...having been... a follower of righteousness, desiring also to be one who possessed great knowledge, and to be a greater follower of righteousness, and to possess a greater knowledge, and to be a father of many nations, a prince of peace, and desiring to receive instructions, and to keep the commandments of God, [he] became a rightful heir, a High Priest, holding the right belonging to the fathers..." (Pearl of Great Price Abraham 1:2)

For this -

"...priesthood administereth the gospel and holdeth the key of the mysteries of the kingdom, even the key of the knowledge of God..." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 84:19)

And through priesthood administration -

"...the ordinances thereof, the power of godliness is manifest.
21 And without the ordinances thereof, and the authority of the priesthood, the power of godliness is not manifest unto men in the flesh..." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 84:20 - 21)

And with priesthood administration, holy contracts and ordinances are administered such as
baptism, the gift of the Holy Ghost, temple endowments, sealings and marriage. But in addition, the priesthood confers upon other worthy men to become-

"... a rightful heir, a High Priest [or high priesthood], holding the right belonging to the fathers..."
(Pearl of Great Price Abraham 1:2)

And it is through receiving and magnifying this priesthood, that all the blessing and knowledge of The Father are promised -

"...For whoso is faithful unto the obtaining these two priesthoods of which I have spoken, and the magnifying their calling, are sanctified by the Spirit unto the renewing of their bodies.
34 They become the sons of Moses and of Aaron and the seed of Abraham, and the church and kingdom, and the elect of God.
35 And also all they who receive this priesthood receive me, saith the Lord;
36 For he that receiveth my servants receiveth me;
37 And he that receiveth me receiveth my Father;
38 And he that receiveth my Father receiveth my Father's kingdom; therefore all that my Father hath shall be given unto him." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 84:33 - 38)

And with this promise a firm decree -

"...And this is according to the oath and covenant which belongeth to the priesthood.
40 Therefore, all those who receive the priesthood, receive this oath and covenant of my Father, which he cannot break, neither can it be moved..."(Doctrine and Covenants Section 84:39 - 40)

Is there any question why Abraham has such a strong desire that he -

"...sought for the blessings of the fathers, and the right whereunto [he] should be ordained to administer the same..." (Pearl of Great Price Abraham 1:2)

And -

"...Abraham believed God [the oath and covenant], and it was accounted to him for righteousness..."(New Testament Galatians 3:6)

"...So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham..." (New Testament Galatians 3:9)

And -

"...they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham..." (New Testament Galatians 3:7)

And -

"...because of the covenant which ye have made ye shall be called the children of Christ, his sons, and his daughters..." (Book of Mormon Mosiah 5:7)

And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
(New Testament Galatians 3:29)
