Moses 1 - 4
To the latter-day saints, the Lord said -
"...there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it—
13 Therefore, that we should waste and wear out our lives in bringing to light all the hidden things of darkness..." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 123:12 - 13)
We later learn if in a revelation to Joseph F. Smith that the Savior, between his cruxificion and his resurection he "...went and preached unto the spirits in prison..." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 138:8) (See also 1 Peter 3:19)
...there he preached to them the everlasting gospel, the doctrine of the resurrection and the redemption of mankind from the fall, and from individual sins on conditions of repentance.
20 But unto the wicked he did not go, and among the ungodly and the unrepentant who had defiled themselves while in the flesh, his voice was not raised..." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 138:19 - 20)
"...But behold, from among the righteous, he organized his forces and appointed messengers, clothed with power and authority, and commissioned them to go forth and carry the light of the gospel to them that were in darkness, even to fall the spirits of men; and thus was the gospel preached to the dead.
31 And the chosen messengers went forth to declare the acceptable day of the Lord and proclaim liberty to the captives who were bound, even unto all who would repent of their sins and receive the gospel.
32 Thus was the gospel preached to those who had died in their sins, without a knowledge of the truth, or in transgression, having rejected the prophets.
33 These were taught faith in God, repentance from sin, vicarious baptism for the remission of sins, the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands,
34 And all other principles of the gospel that were necessary for them to know in order to qualify themselves that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit..." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 138:30 - 34)
In the Book of Moses, Moses receives a great revelation in which he -
"...cast his eyes and beheld the earth, yea, even all of it; and there was not a particle of it which he did not behold, discerning it by the spirit of God.
28 And he beheld also the inhabitants thereof, and there was not a soul which he beheld not; and he discerned them by the Spirit of God; and their numbers were great, even numberless as the sand upon the sea shore.
29 And he beheld many lands; and each land was called earth, and there were inhabitants on the face thereof..."(Pearl of Great Price Moses 1:27 - 29)
And then our Father in Heaven reveals -
"...worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten..." (Pearl of Great Price Moses 1:33)
Then Moses asks -
"...O God, and tell me concerning this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, and also the heavens, and then thy servant will be content..." (Pearl of Great Price Moses 1:36)
And then our Father in Heaven answers -
"...The heavens, they are many, and they cannot be numbered unto man; but they are numbered unto me, for they are mine.
38 And as one earth shall pass away, and the heavens thereof even so shall another come, and there is no end to my works, neither to my words.
39 For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man..." (Pearl of Great Price Moses 1:37 - 39)
My thoughts this morning are if we want to become like our Father in Heaven we must come to know him, understand his life, his work, his glory. There are some who struggle to fulfill a mission call. There are some that feel if they complete a mission or fulfill a calling that they have done their duty and that is enough. But the Lord teaches by scripture that his work never ends! We are to "waste and wear out" our earthly lives. This work will continue after death in the world of spirits. And this work must continue forever and ever if we seek eternal life or inother words, God's life, for this is his work and his glory.
