Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

Moses 5 - 6

Of the people of Enoch's day, the Lord said -

"...I am angry with this people, and my fierce anger is kindled against them; for their hearts have waxed hard, and their fears are dull of hearing, and their eyes cannot see afar off;
28 And for these many generations, ever since the day that I created them, have they gone astray, and have denied me, and have sought their own counsels in the dark... and have not kept the commandments..."(Pearl of Great Price Moses 6:27 - 28)

In 6,000 years things haven't changed much. I read the following editorial in this mornings paper -

"Most members of our society believe they are enlightened or educated. Nothing could be further from the truth. We're still in a dark age of some sort. A high majority of Americans (but not Europeans) still believe that an invisible man lives in the sky and affects the events on this earth. In this scientific age, when we know that earthquakes, tornadoes, lightning, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis are not caused by a superman in the sky, isn't it obvious there are no ghosts, angels, demons, devils, heavens, hells and no supernatural gods? Those who believe an unseen superman can stop the weather with his voice, cure the blind by just touching them and restore to life people who have been dead for three days, obviously give more credence to myths and fantasy and are still in a dark age themselves."

As I was read the editorial, I was somewhat disappointed that someone felt such an obligation to voice such a strong statement against religion, but I was not surprised with the opinion. It's has always seemed prevelant throughout the history of man, for -

"...Satan came among them, saying: I am also a son of God; and he commanded them, saying: Believe it not..." (Pearl of Great Price Moses 5:13)

"...and tempteth them to worship him..." (Pearl of Great Price Moses 6:49)

"...and they believed it not, and they loved Satan more than God. And men began from that time forth to be carnal, sensual, and devilish." (Pearl of Great Price Moses 5:13)

And the Lord said to Enoch -

"...Enoch, my son, prophesy unto this people, and say unto them—Repent..." (Pearl of Great Price Moses 6:27)

"...And when Enoch had heard these words, he bowed himself to the earth, before the Lord, and spake before the Lord, saying: Why is it that I have found favor in thy sight, and am but a lad, and all the people hate me; for I am slow of speech; wherefore am I thy servant?" (Pearl of Great Price Moses 6:31)

And the Lord answered -

"...Go forth and do as I have commanded thee, and no man shall pierce thee. Open thy mouth, and it shall be filled, and I will give thee utterance...Say unto this people: Choose ye this day, to serve the Lord God who made you.
34 Behold my Spirit is upon you, wherefore all thy words will I justify..." (Pearl of Great Price Moses 6:32 - 34)

And the Lord commanded Enoch to -

"...Anoint thine eyes with clay, and wash them, and thou shalt see..." (Pearl of Great Price Moses 6:35)

And in strict obedience, Enoch "did so".

"And he beheld the spirits that God had created; and he beheld also things which were not visible to the natural eye..." (Pearl of Great Price Moses 6:36)

With the "clay" representing this world we live in , it can limit our vision where we can only see the things of this world. Our opinions will be that of the editorial quoted above. But as we follow the commandments and wash the clay from our eyes we will begin to see more clearly spiritual things, that which is "not visible to the natural eye".

"...and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost...
(Book of Mormon 1 Nephi 10:19)

For Enoch -

"...beheld the spirits that God had created; and he beheld also things which were not visible to the natural eye; and from thenceforth came the saying abroad in the land: A seer hath the Lord raised up unto his people..." (Pearl of Great Price Moses 6:36)

And with this knowledge and testimony -

"...Enoch went forth in the land, among the people, standing upon the hills and the high places, and cried with a loud voice, testifying against their works; and all men were offended because of him..." (Pearl of Great Price Moses 6:37)
