Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

2 Nephi 9

As Jacob teaches his people concerning the plan of salvation and the need of a Savior, he comments -

"For as death hath passed upon all men, to fulfil the merciful plan of the great Creator, there must needs be a power of resurrection..."   (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 9:6)

My thoughts this morning was in regards to the blessing of death.  Even though many would have it that they would never die, the older I get, the more corruptible my body becomes.  Thus the idea of death and putting of this corruptible body that I might receive a perfect resurrected body, to me, is considered a great blessing.  Thus -

"...it must needs be an infinite atonement—save it should be an infinite atonement this corruption could not put on incorruption."  (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 9:7)

What a great gift of the Savior that all men may put on incorruption.

Another thought this morning.  Jacob tells of the condition if there was no atonement saying -

"For behold, if the flesh should rise no more our spirits must become subject to that angel who fell from before the presence of the Eternal God, and became the devil, to rise no more.
9 And our spirits must have become like unto him, and we become devils, angels to a devil, to be shut out from the presence of our God, and to remain with the father of lies, in misery, like unto himself..."  (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 9:8 - 9)

Jacob would then follow with this saying -

"O how great the plan of our God!  For on the other hand, the paradise of God must deliver up the spirits of the righteous, and the grave deliver up the body of the righteous; and the spirit and the body is restored to itself again, and all men become incorruptible, and immortal, and they are living souls, having a perfect knowledge like unto us in the flesh, save it be that our knowledge shall be perfect."  (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 9:13)

My thought this morning was that without the atonement, there would no be a paradise of God in that there would be no righteous.  A very disturbing thought.  Thus we would all be confined to death and hell.
