JC - Chapter 40

As Elder Talmage reviewed the history of religion after the death of the apostles or as he calls "the great apostasy", he quotes a few prophecies -

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God."  (New Testament | 2 Thessalonians 2:3 - 4)

For -

"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it."  (Old Testament | Amos 8:11 - 12)

And not only an absence of the word of the Lord, but also -

"The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant."  (Old Testament | Isaiah 24:5)
