Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

Matthew 9

My thoughts this morning are brief.  The Savior taught the saints in the Americas -

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, this is my gospel; and ye know the things that ye must do in my church; for the works which ye have seen me do that shall ye also do; for that which ye have seen me do even that shall ye do..."  (Book of Mormon | 3 Nephi 27:21)

Which suggests to me that when we teach, we should teach in the Savior's way or as He did.  I noted this morning as teh Pharisees asked -

"...Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?
12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."  (New Testament | Matthew 9:11 - 13)

I notice in his teachings that He used the scriptures or the words of the Prophets.  In this case, Hosea -

"For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings."  (Old Testament | Hosea 6:6)

In in His manner of teaching, He asked "learn what that meaneth" or in my mind, what do these words mean.

It is a great lesson in how we are to teach the gospel.
