Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

Matthew 6

The Lord taught in His Sermon on the Mount -

"TAKE heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly."  (New Testament | Matthew 6:1 - 4)

Alms means:  Charity or something (as money or food) given freely to relieve the poor.

I think the same teaching would apply to any type of donation such as labor, services, consecrations, etc.

I believe the Savior is teaching that we should be very careful in calling attention to ourselves whenever we are involved in the Lord's work.  Even though at times, much is seen.  Our hearts should be away from being honored of men.

This seemed to jump off the page this morning.
