Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

Jeremiah 47

As I read the prophecies of Jeremiah concerning the destruction and captivity of the cities of Philistines, Moabites, Elam, Arabia, Ammonites, Egypt because of their wickedness, I could help but think about the destroyed cities of the Nephites because of their wickedness as the time the Savior was crucified.  Jeremiah writes -

"O thou sword of the LORD, how long will it be ere thou be quiet?..."  (Old Testament | Jeremiah 47:6)

Which suggests to me that the sword is the sword of justice that will come upon the wicked at judgement as well as groups or cities of wickedness when they are fully ripe in iniquity.  Just as Isaiah did, Jeremiah uses the term "bald" or "baldness" as a term of captivity and slavery.  We see this -

"...for the LORD will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor.
5 Baldness is come upon Gaza..."  (Old Testament | Jeremiah 47:4 - 5)

"For every head shall be bald, and every beard clipped: upon all the hands shall be cuttings, and upon the loins sackcloth."  (Old Testament | Jeremiah 48:37)

There was some interesting words prophecied by Jeremiah concerning Moab and Elam in the latter days saying -

"Yet will I bring again the captivity of Moab in the latter days, saith the LORD."  (Old Testament | Jeremiah 48:47)

"But it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring again the captivity of Elam, saith the LORD."  (Old Testament | Jeremiah 49:39)

Concerning these two groups, the Old Testament Student Manual says -

“Verse 39 speaks of the Lord’s bringing again the captivity of Elam in the latter days. Again, it is supposed that this passage means their conversion, as with the Moabites” (Old testament Student Manual, page 258)
