Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

2 Peter 2

Just there are members of the Church that begin to promote false doctrines in the name of fairness and covetousness, it appears they had the same problem in the primitive Church as Peter writes -

"...there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies..."  (New Testament | 2 Peter 2:1)

"And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you..."  (New Testament | 2 Peter 2:2 - 3)

We see this being prevalent in our day.  Of such, Peter warns that they will -

"...bring upon themselves swift destruction."  (New Testament | 2 Peter 2:1)

Peter even teaches as the members begin to follow their own false teachings instead of the truth taught by priesthood leaders, he warns them of the willingness of the Lord to punish the wicked in the day of Noah and of Sodom and Gomorrha, even -

"For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment..."  (New Testament | 2 Peter 2:4)

Of the rebellious that begin to teach their own doctrines, they are -

"...chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities."  (New Testament | 2 Peter 2:10)

These are they -

"Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness..."  (New Testament | 2 Peter 2:15)

Even -

"...beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children..."  (New Testament | 2 Peter 2:14)

"For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage."  (New Testament | 2 Peter 2:18 - 19)

For Peter knew -

"...there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts..."  (New Testament | 2 Peter 3:3)

These would be -

"...they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction."  (New Testament | 2 Peter 3:16)

Thus Peter warns and pleads  -

"...seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ..."  (New Testament | 2 Peter 3:17 - 18)
