Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

Moroni 8

Though the theme of this letter or epistle from Mormon was mainly in regards to -

"...this thing shall ye teach—repentance and baptism unto those who are accountable and capable of committing sin; yea, teach parents that they must repent and be baptized, and humble themselves as their little children, and they shall all be saved with their little children.
11 And their little children need no repentance, neither baptism. Behold, baptism is unto repentance to the fulfilling the commandments unto the remission of sins.
12 But little children are alive in Christ, even from the foundation of the world..."  (Book of Mormon  Moroni 8:10 - 12)

But what touched my mind this morning were the words -

"...behold that all little children are alive in Christ, and also all they that are without the law. For the power of redemption cometh on all them that have no law; wherefore, he that is not condemned, or he that is under no condemnation, cannot repent; and unto such baptism availeth nothing—"  (Book of Mormon  Moroni 8:22)

"...for repentance is unto them that are under condemnation and under the curse of a broken law."  (Book of Mormon   Moroni 8:24)

From these words we begin to understand that fairness and justice will come to all in the exercising of their agency, understanding, and works.  For Peter also taught -

"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison..."  (New Testament  1 Peter 3:18 - 19)

"For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit."  (New Testament 1 Peter 4:6)

All suggesting that justice can only be satisfied if one becomes fully accountable.  Being accountable is a hard thing to do which suggests that only God can really determine accountability.  That is why President Joseph F. Smith said of a vision -

"I beheld that the faithful elders of this dispensation, when they depart from mortal life, continue their labors in the preaching of the gospel of repentance and redemption, through the sacrifice of the Only Begotten Son of God, among those who are in darkness and under the bondage of sin in the great world of the spirits of the dead.
58 The dead who repent will be redeemed, through obedience to the ordinances of the house of God,
59 And after they have paid the penalty of their transgressions, and are washed clean, shall receive a reward according to their works, for they are heirs of salvation."  (Doctrine and Covenants  Section 138:57 - 59)

I am convinced that justice and fairness will in the end be administered.
