Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

Revelation 22

In follow up to yesterday's blog, John summarizes this great revelation with the words of the Savior -

"Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie." (New Testament | Revelation 22:14 - 15)

If I could sum up the New Testament it would be the requirement to have faith in Jesus Christ by obeying His commanments for -

"He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still." (New Testament | Revelation 22:11)

I had one final thought on this revelation. John concluded this revelation with -

"I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." (New Testament | Revelation 22:18 - 19)

There are many that have suggested that these words were in reference to the Bible as a whole and that there would never be more revelation. That explanation can quickly be dismissed because there was no Bible in his day. The Bible was not assembled more many generations and this revelation was happened to be included at the end. Many have noted that the Gospel of John was written after this revelation.

Many of the saints have explained that these words were only in reference to this revelation John received. I would argue that because I don't think John ever considered this revelation to be a "book" or to be included in a future combination of writings and epistles called the Bible.

My thoughts this morning was that this statement regarding the "book" is the book spoken of in the 5th chapter of this revelation. John -

"...saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals." (New Testament | Revelation 5:1)

This book included the entire plan of salvation, or in other words the prophecy of that which was planned and would come including the seven seals our thousands years from Adam to the coming of a new earth. John was privileged to see the events of much of the sixth and seventh seals of this book.

I don't see this book ever being ammended. It was the plan from the beginning. I believe this is what was meant "if any man shall add unto these things" because it would be contrary to the will of God.
