Helaman 11

 Mormon wrote concerning the Nephites - 

"...save it were a few contentions concerning the points of doctrine which had been laid down by the prophets.

23 And in the seventy and ninth year there began to be much strife. But it came to pass that Nephi and Lehi, and many of their brethren who knew concerning the true points of doctrine, having many revelations daily, therefore they did preach unto the people, insomuch that they did put an end to their strife in that same year."  (Helaman 11:22–23)

It seems to me that man is always wanting to change eternal doctrine for their own ease and benefit.  Of course, changing doctrine leads away from agency and happiness.  President Packer taught - 

"True doctrine, understood, changes attitudes and behavior. The study of the doctrines of the gospel will improve behavior quicker than a study of behavior will improve behavior." -President Boyd K. Packer
