Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

3 Nephi 1

After Samuel the Lamanite had prophecied concerning the birth of the Savior -

"...there were some who began to say that the time was past for the words to be fulfilled, which were spoken by Samuel, the Lamanite.
6 And they began to rejoice over their brethren, saying: Behold the time is past, and the words of Samuel are not fulfilled; therefore, your joy and your faith concerning this thing hath been vain." (Book of Mormon | 3 Nephi 1:5 - 6)

In our day, we look forward to the coming of Christ. But even though we are not sure when, there seems to be a growing mockery from those that think this is foolishness...even though there are signs of the times. But the unbelievers in the day of Nephi could not leave it alone -

"...that they did make a great uproar throughout the land..." (Book of Mormon | 3 Nephi 1:7)

It's one thing to mock and dispute a belief, but when Satan gets into the hearts of men, again, the opposition increases for we learn in Nephi's day that -

"...it came to pass that there was a day set apart by the unbelievers, that all those who believed in those traditions should be put to death except the sign should come to pass, which had been given by Samuel the prophet." (Book of Mormon | 3 Nephi 1:9)

That was serious! Yet the believers or -

"...the people who believed began to be very sorrowful, lest by any means those things which had been spoken might not come to pass." (Book of Mormon | 3 Nephi 1:7)

But the fact that they may have been disappointed with the events of there day, for even -

"...when Nephi, the son of Nephi, saw this wickedness of his people, his heart was exceedingly sorrowful." (Book of Mormon | 3 Nephi 1:10)

But we also see that even being sorrowful or disappointed -

"...they did watch steadfastly for that day and that night and that day which should be as one day as if there were no night, that they might know that their faith had not been vain." (Book of Mormon | 3 Nephi 1:8)

This is the demonstration of faith, is that we continue to watch and pray with steadfastness no matter what happens.
