Scripture Blog

This weblog is my personal online scripture journal. I try to read the scriptures each morning as I exercise on my cross-trainer. It has a great impact on my life and my testimony of the Savior and his restored church. The journal is really for my own benefit but I have set it up as a web log in hopes to benefit anyone else that may be interested. "For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost..." 1 Nephi 10:19

D&C 84

The Lord instructs His saints -

"...I now give unto you a commandment to beware concerning yourselves, to give diligent heed to the words of eternal life.
44 For you shall live by every word that proceedeth forth from the mouth of God." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 84:43 - 44)

We find the words of eternal life in the scriptures and in the counsel and direction of priesthood leaders. And the Lord provides this explanation -

"For the word of the Lord is truth, and whatsoever is truth is light, and whatsoever is light is Spirit, even the Spirit of Jesus Christ.
46 And the Spirit giveth light to every man that cometh into the world..." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 84:45 - 46)

This light of Christ which permeates space can be sensed and experienced under the following conditions -

"...the Spirit enlighteneth every man through the world, that hearkeneth to the voice of the Spirit." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 84:46)

For -

"...every one that hearkeneth to the voice of the Spirit cometh unto God, even the Father." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 84:47)

It is those the cometh to God that -

"...the Father teacheth him of the covenant which he has renewed and confirmed upon you..." (Doctrine and Covenants Section 84:48)

Many times we focus on the temptations of the adversary without any discussion that there is a constant and powerful influence of the Light of Christ if we but choose to hearken. George C. Cannon said -

"Satan has power in the earth, and in the exercise of his agency he tempts the children of men...At the same time we have the sweet influence of the Spirit of God pleading with us to do that which is right, pleading with every human being that does not drive it from him; for every human being has a portion of the Spirit of God given unto him. We sometimes call it conscience; we call it by one name and we call it by another; but it is the Spirit of God that every man and woman possesses that is born on the earth. God has given unto all his children this Spirit. Of course it is not the gift of the Holy Ghost in its fullness; for that is only received by obedience to the commandments of God." (George Q. Cannon, in Journal of Discourses, 26:191.)
